Canton Reference1.2

Canton Reference1.2

Speaker materials have come a long way from the days of paper cones and rubber surrounds. Nowadays, you’re as likely to find to polyester film, aluminum titanium and even beryllium used to construct high-end speakers. But the audiophile world hasn’t stopped innovating yet. Canton’s latest loudspeakers feature tweeters built from aluminum oxide ceramic – a material second only to diamond in terms of hardness.

Why use ultra-tough materials for parts that will probably never touch so much as a human finger? To make them smaller. According to the German outfit, the new cones can be made with an even tighter curvature than the old aluminum-manganese style, giving them more “off-axis response linearity.” In listening terms, Canton says that translates to even less distortion at high volumes.

Combine that with the company’s triple-curved-cone technology in the bass and midrange drivers, displacement control circuitry to limit uncontrolled driver excursions, and a knock-out cabinet built from five-layer pressure-laminated fiberboard, and you have speakers prepared to perform.

The aluminum-oxide-ceramic tweeters appear in three of the company’s latest models: the Reference 5.2 DC, Reference 7.2 DC, and Reference 9.2 DC, all of which are

PrimaLuna ProLogue Classic Integrated Amplifier

PrimaLuna ProLogue

All of the new integrated amplifiers and power amplifiers now come with a built-in switch that optimizes performance for either EL34 or KT88 output tubes, so there is no longer any need to choose between EL34 and KT88 models. All of the new models will work optimally with either tube. The PrimaLuna exclusive Adaptive AutoBias system has been upgraded to support this tube selection feature. All integrated amplifiers and power amplifiers now have bad tube indicators to take the guess work out of tube replacement. No longer will you have to wonder whether it's time to replace a power tube. All amplifiers also have output transformer protection to prevent damage to the output transformers in case of a short circuit in the loudspeaker cable or loudspeaker itself. Another new feature is the +B relay circuit. This is a special protection circuit that replaces the tube's plate fuse, resulting in superior protection and better sonics. Also, the protection circuit automatically resets when the bad tube is replaced, so the bother of having to replace fuses is gone. All of the new models also have power transformer protection to prevent damage and upgraded parts such as Solen capacitors and fast-recovery diodes. In the ProLogue Line, the new ProLogue Classic integrated amplifier replaces both the ProLogue One and ProLogue Two models. It shares the cosmetics of the rest of the ProLogue line but incorporates the improvements discussed above. It ships with El34 tubes, but switching to KT88s is simple with the tube selector switch described above.

M3 Dual Mono Integrated Amplifier

NAD M3 Dual Mono Integrated Amplifier

With 2-channels of 180-watts of pure power, we're quite certain the M3 meets the outline of our technical brief which reads, "The industrial design must create a physical presence that is powerful, dynamic and solid, yet refined and elegant." We're certain we've met the challenge of this outline as well as your personal requirements.

The M3 includes an entire host of convenient features to allow seamless integration into virtually any listening application. The M3 offers internal switching for two pairs of speakers and tone controls as well as a second Zone 2 output with independent commands and even its own remote control.

Front panel controls allow for direct access of all features as well. Performance features are many, and include a precision volume attenuator with 0.5dB steps and a range of 87.5db, a remote balance control with 0.5dB steps, and a Mode control which allows stereo, left only, right only and mono settings. Tone controls offer bass and treble adjustments as well as a "spectral tilt" option that is highly effective at correcting the tonal balance of many recordings by simultaneously increasing the bass and decreasing the treble (and vice versa) to create a warmer or cooler balance. There are also a second set of preamp outputs and a switchable high-pass filter for the internal amplifier, to allow easy implementation of any active subwoofer or for bi-amplification.

Arcam FMJ AVR400 AV Receiver

Arcam AVR400 Receiver

Using technology developed from the acclaimed AVR600 receiver and AV888 processor the AVR400 has been developed as a more affordable way to access Arcam’s legendary sound quality. It is designed to be the perfect home cinema receiver for a wide range of enthusiastic customers and custom designed home theatres.

The AVR400 sounds precise, detailed and natural. More like an up market hi-fi separate amp in sound quality than the uniformly disappointing noise served up by most AV amps which aren’t even good enough for Country and Western. Its clarity and poise on vocals will draw in all who listen.
